The White Box

A new semester a new project.  We had to make an environment that was completely white in a 9x9x9 box.  Then we had to put an object in it.  My project was inspired by Rogers and Hammerstein's Cinderella.  I don't really feel like writing much about it so I'm just going to post pictures.

This is a picture I took and added a filter too.  I really like the feel of it though!

MC Escher Project

So we had to make our own Escher drawing.  MC Escher was known for taking images and fitting them into each other like a puzzle.  Here is his gallery if you are interested in seeing his work! (I highly recommend checking it out, they are really cool!)

So I was inspired by this picture of a skull that I found online, and that is where I started from:

From the skull, I made a really quick sketch on graph paper (it ended up being the final shape/figure that I used).
Next I took some tracing paper and played around with different configurations.

I transfered the image to watercolor paper, inked it, and then painted the skulls and flowers.
It's crooked I know...

For extra credit we were asked to scan it into photoshop and invert the colors, it actually came out pretty cool!

The project was a challenge, but totally worth it!

Head Piece Inspired by Bonsai Tree

From the Bonsai tree that I drew in the previous post, here is what I designed inspired by it.  I don't exactly know why, but I had this feeling that I really wanted to create a headpiece.  I then listed off keywords that I felt described the Bonsai tree; reaching, pulling, scratch, rough, painful, etc.  After getting the words out, I couldn't get the image of a hand grabbing a girl by the head and yanking back, causing her head to pop off!  The idea of a torture device or someone being tortured seemed appropriate.  The head piece is inspired by these ideas and I was proposing to making it out of aluminum with a luster of copper to give it that old rusted look.  I don't know if these materials would be the right ones to use, but then again, I am only a freshman again and I've never done this before so I shouldn't beat myself up for it if I am wrong!

I am also just starting out with water colors and so far I've really loved using them!  I'm super excited to start learning more and doing more with them!

Bonzai Tree - Graphite on Paper

I drew this for my Basic Design project.  It is a Bonzai Tree from the Phipps Conservatory.  Now that I am no longer in architecture, I feel like I am even more passionate about my work than I ever was before.  I have improved a lot from those figure drawings too.  This was the source of my inspiration for the next part of the project, which I will post when I am finished.

On a side note, now that I think I might be happy, I'm going to try and post more regularly with my work and with my inspiration!  I hope you enjoy!  Please leave any comments/recommendations/critiques!  Anything really!  I would love to hear what people have to say and it would really help me learn and grow!

3D Printing

This is the first thing I have ever 3D printed.  It was for my Introduction To Digital Media class.  We had to design a tile.  I was inspired by taking a piece of paper at opposite ends and twisting wrists in opposite directions.

MY FIRST BLOUSE

Life is difficult.  It doesn't always go as planned but sometimes that's for the better!  It's bitter sweet and it makes me question everything all the time but sometimes I have these moments where I just can't get over myself, I feel like something is right.

So I took my first sewing class this summer and here is the first blouse I've ever made.

Inspiration for life

This is the Spartan Race and though this blog is for artwork, my life inspires my creativity and this inspires me.  There are times when I feel like I will go no where, but I will show everyone how great I am.  I am afraid of failure, but without failure, there will never be success.  This video inspires me to be great because I am great.

I said earlier that I love quotes... this one may be my favorite:
"Pain is temporary. It may last for a minute, or an hour, or a day, or even a year...
but eventually it will subside and something else will take its place.
If I quit, however, it will last forever." -Lance Armstrong
